The auction house is a server-wide marketplace where players list items for sale and anyone can buy them, whether or not the seller is online. There are no fees or taxes, listings never expire, and the same stock is available from every auction NPC in the world.

Requirements

[edit]
  • A total level of 100 or more
  • If your account has a bank PIN, you must enter it once per session
  • Ironmen of every kind cannot use the auction house

Where to find it

[edit]

Right-click an Auctioneer or an Auction Clerk and choose Auction, or talk to them and ask to browse the auction house. You must be standing within two tiles.

  • Four Auctioneers stand in Varrock centre, around the square.
  • An Auction Clerk stands in or beside most banks:
Region Auction Clerks
Misthalin Both Varrock banks, Edgeville, Draynor Village, Al Kharid
Asgarnia Both Falador banks, Port Sarim (beside Gerrant's fishing shop)
Kandarin Catherby, Seers' Village, both Ardougne banks, Yanille, the Fishing Guild, the Tree Gnome Stronghold
Elsewhere Shilo Village, Zanaris, the Mage Arena

Teleport to Varrock

[edit]

Auction Clerks will also teleport you to Varrock centre, beside the Auctioneers, for 1,000 coins. Right-click a clerk and choose Teleport, or ask in conversation. The coins must be in your inventory, and it is a one-way trip.

Buying

[edit]

The Browse tab lists everything for sale.

  • Search matches any part of an item's name.
  • Sort cycles through price (high to low, or low to high), name, and price each (high to low, or low to high).
  • Categories narrow the list: All, Weapon, Armour, Consumable, Projectile, Jewelry, Ore & Bar, Herblaw, Rare and Misc. Categories work from keywords, so if you cannot find something, look under All.
  • Refresh reloads the list. It can be used once every 5 seconds.

Click a listing to see its details, including the seller, the price of the whole stack and the price each. Enter the amount you want – you can buy part of a stack – and press Purchase Now.

  • The coins must be in your inventory. Coins in your bank are not used.
  • You cannot buy your own listing.
  • If someone else gets there first you are told the item is sold out. Press Refresh.

Where your purchase goes

[edit]
Purchase Goes to
A non-stackable item, with room in your inventory Your inventory. Buying more than one gives you a single noted stack.
Stackable items such as runes and arrows Your bank, always
Anything that does not fit in your inventory Your bank

If neither your inventory nor your bank has room, the purchase does not go through and no coins are taken.

Selling

[edit]
  1. Open the My Auctions tab and click + Select item.
  2. Click the item in your inventory. Only items you are carrying can be listed, not items in your bank.
  3. Set the Quantity and the price. You can type either the GP Each or the GP Total and the other is worked out for you. The price defaults to the item's base value.
  4. Press Create Auction.
  • Coins and untradeable items cannot be listed. Noted items can, and become an ordinary listing.
  • There is no listing fee and no sales tax – you receive the full price.
  • There is no limit on how many auctions you can run, and they never expire.
  • The smallest price is 1 coin, and prices and quantities can be up to 99,999,999.

When you price a stack, pick a total that divides evenly by the quantity. The price each is rounded down, so an uneven total loses a few coins when buyers take part of the stack.

Collecting your coins

[edit]

Coins from sales are not paid to you automatically. When something sells you are told "You can collect your earnings from a bank", and if you were offline a box lists your sales the next time you log in.

To collect, right-click any Banker and choose Collect, or ask them "I'd like to collect my items from auction". Everything is placed in your bank. If your bank is full, the rest is held until you make room.

Cancelling

[edit]

In My Auctions, select one of your listings and press Cancel Auction. There is no penalty. Unsold items come straight back to your inventory if they fit – noted, if there is more than one – and otherwise go to your bank.

You must wait 3 seconds between buying, listing and cancelling.
