Batched skilling means that a single click keeps repeating an action for you. Click a rock once and you carry on mining; use a bar on an anvil once and you smith the whole inventory. It removes the constant re-clicking of the original game without changing how fast you train.

How it works

[edit]

When you start an action, the game works out how many times it can be repeated and begins a batch. The action then repeats by itself until the batch is finished or something interrupts it.

A small Batching window shows a progress bar with how many actions are done out of the total, and a Cancel button. You can drag the window by its header. The bar can be hidden with the Batch Progress Bar setting – batching still happens, you just do not see the bar.

How many actions are in a batch

[edit]

Gathering skills – based on your level

[edit]

Mining, Woodcutting, Fishing, Firemaking, Thieving (pickpocketing and picking locks) and Gathering repeat a number of times that grows with your level in that skill.

Level Actions per click
1–10 10
11–19 12
20–29 14
30–39 16
40–49 20
50–59 24
60–69 32
70–79 40
80–89 48
90–95 56
96–99 64

Processing skills – everything you are carrying

[edit]

Most other actions simply continue until you run out of materials:

  • Cooking – everything of that food in your inventory
  • Smelting – as many bars as your ores allow, and cannonballs for every steel bar
  • Prayer – burying every bone of that kind
  • Herblaw – identifying herbs, making unfinished potions, finishing potions and grinding ingredients
  • Fletching – cutting logs and stringing bows
  • Crafting – cutting gems, spinning, pottery, glass, leather, silver jewellery and stringing amulets
  • Runecraft – chiselling talismans and imbuing them
  • Filling buckets and vials, softening clay, tanning hides, slicing fruit and similar small jobs

Filling your inventory

[edit]

Shearing sheep, picking crops and mining rune stones continue until your inventory is full.

Asked each time

[edit]
  • Smithing at an anvil asks whether to Make 1, Make 5, Make 10 or Make All.
  • Gold jewellery asks whether to Make all, 1, 3, 5, 10 or all but one.

Fixed amounts

[edit]

Attaching feathers, arrowheads and bolt tips makes up to 50 per click, in five sets of ten.

Not batched

[edit]

Stealing from stalls and chests, binding runes at an altar (which already uses every rune stone at once), Agility and combat.

What stops a batch

[edit]
  • Moving, or clicking anywhere to walk
  • Pressing Cancel on the progress bar
  • Starting any other action – talking to someone, using or dropping an item, picking something up, trading
  • Combat – attacking something, or being attacked by a monster or a player
  • Running out of materials or bait
  • The resource running out – the rock depletes, the tree falls or the fishing spot moves
  • While mining, finding a gem ends the batch
  • While pickpocketing, getting caught ends the batch

A full inventory does not stop a gathering batch. Anything that does not fit is dropped silently on the ground beneath you, so keep an eye on your inventory when mining or fishing.

Changes that make batching work

[edit]
  • Rocks do not deplete after every ore. Each ore has only a chance of emptying the rock – about 9% for copper and tin and 14% for iron, rising for better ores – so one rock usually gives several ores.
  • Fishing spots can move. After a catch there is a small chance that the spot dries up for a while, so that nobody can fish one spot forever.
  • Firemaking walks for you. After each fire you step aside and the next log from your inventory is dropped and lit automatically.
  • Rocks, trees and fishing spots are shared. If another player empties a rock just before your swing lands, you get nothing from that swing.
  • There is no fatigue, so nothing needs to be slept off between batches.
